Protective factors are the relationships, habits, and ways of thinking that support your mental health and help you recover when life gets hard. The more of them you have, the better prepared you are for setbacks.
Some protective factors aren’t up to you, like your genes, your family, or where you grew up. Plenty of others are: who you spend time with, how you handle stress, and what you do with your days. This self-check helps you notice where you’re already strong and choose what to build next.
It takes about 7 minutes. Part 1 is 15 quick ratings. Part 2 asks four questions taken from national surveys, so you can see how your answers compare with other people your age.
This page is anonymous. It never asks for your name. When you finish Part 1, your six factor scores and any Part 2 answers are saved automatically to your class’s anonymous results, along with the date. No name, email, time of day, or device details are saved. This is the anonymous data collection you and your parents agreed to for this course. Your individual ratings, and anything you download or print, stay on this device.

Part 1
Rate your protective factors
For each statement, choose how true it is for you lately. Go with your first honest reaction. There are no right answers.
Part 2
How you compare
These four questions come from large national surveys of teens and young adults. Answer one and you’ll see how people your age answered the same question. The figures describe groups, not what’s right for you.
Your class’s results
Your scores are saved anonymously as soon as you finish Part 1, and updated if you change an answer. Class averages appear once at least 5 students have taken part, so no one’s answers can be picked out.
Finish all 15 ratings in Part 1 to add your scores to the class results.
